Join us to change the way bullying is handled at SMSD!!!

Anti-Bully Rally <-watch live here

Please come, even if SMSD is not your school district, this will have an impact nationwide.

The Shawnee Mission School District minimizes the effects bullying has on our children and fails to enforce their own policies.

Your support can be used to change policies across the nation. We need numbers to make our voice heard.

Our daughter Claire was bullied and beaten unconscious at an SMSD middle school. We want to raise awareness in the school district about how SMSD mishandles bullying, bullies, and the victims of bullying.

Youth Bullying Statistics

  • Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death.
  • There are at least 100 attempts for every suicide.
  • 4,400 bully related deaths per year.
  • Every 7 minutes a child is bullied.
  • 40-60% of special needs children are bullied.

School-based bullying prevention programs decrease bullying by up to 25%

SMSD has policies in place to address bullying but they aren’t enforced. Parents are outraged at how they handle bullying. Victims get equal punishment? Schools don’t mediate problems or teach children conflict management skills. We propose implementing the following solution:

PBIS: Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports

Restorative Justice Strategy

The current answer of “kids will be kids” is no longer acceptable. We can’t just sweep it under the rug and “just move on/get past it” without addressing the underlying issues. We need to give children resolution strategies and model the appropriate behavior. SMSD is liable for our children’s safety.
